Jimena
Lasansky, dancer, choreographer and educator has performed her
solo repertoire and worked extensively with children, adults and
teachers throughout the eastern seaboard and in Central and South
America. Lasansky's solo performances have included premieres of work by
Ernesta Corvino and Ze'eva Cohen, and she has also performed the work of
Anna Sokolow. She is director of the Lasansky School of Dance, home to
the LASANSKY DANCE THEATER ENSEMBLE, where she is principal
choreographer. She is a member of
the Maine Artist Access Directory of the Maine Arts
Commission, and maintains her studio in Lincolnville, Maine, where she
lives and works. She did
undergraduate studies with Alfredo Corvino, Margaret Craske and Jose
Limon, at New York’s Juilliard School and later earned
a master’s degree in Dance in Education, working with Norma Canner as
her thesis advisor. She is the
recipient of numerous fellowships and grants for her work in the fields
of choreography, performance and education. Lasansky continues to be
featured in many articles and has been the subject of two video
documentaries aired on Maine Public Television. She has served
on the Dance Advisory Panel to the Maine Arts Commission, as an
assistant professor of Dance at the University of Maine at Augusta, and
as a movement specialist with the Artists in Education Dance Component
Program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
